A note about menu icons and toolbar buttons:
An artist was employed to update a substantial portion of Toad's main menu, toolbar buttons, and Editor icons. This work was finished too late for new screen-shots to be delivered to documentation, therefore the icons from Toad 11.5 are still present in Release Notes and help.
For the next release of Toad, the icons in the documentation will be updated, and further work will continue in Toad to enhance more icons throughout the product.
Meanwhile, the familiar placement of buttons and icons will allow you to quickly grow accustomed to the updated images.
Updated User Guide
The 'Beginner's Guide' has been replaced by the 'Guide to Using Toad for Oracle 11.6,' in which Chapter 1 is the 'Beginner's Guide' content, updated for 11.6.

New Online Capabilities
Toad Options now includes an Online section (View Toad Options Online) for new online features:
- Project Lucy (available with the DB Admin Module DBA Suite Edition, and DBA Suite RAC Edition)
- MyToad Monitor
- Enable MyToad
- Enable user file syncing
- Toad World.
Note: When you log in to Toad World in the online options, you won't have to sign in each time you Open from Repository or Save to Repository within the Editor. Read 'Toad World Repository' below.
These three new tools allow you to perform remote script execution using mobile devices, access public script files from a global repository and place your user files online, for backup and sharing across multiple computers.
MyToad
Introducing MyToad for Remote Script Execution
Now you can use MyToad, a new Web application available at MyToad.ToadWorld.com.
With MyToad, you can:
- Store script files using your Dropbox account
- View them via the Web
- Choose which ones to execute.
If you have multiple Toad installations, you can select the machine to execute the scripts.
This data is encrypted using 256-bit AES encryption.
First-time use of MyToad
- Go to Options Online MyToad Monitor.
Check Enable MyToad and click OK.
You will notice the Toad for Oracle MyToad Monitor icon displayed on your taskbar.
Complete the Initial Setup dialog.
Note: If you don't see the Initial Setup dialog, click the MyToad Monitor icon on your taskbar.
- Register with Dropbox or sign in if you have an account and click Allow to let Toad for Oracle connect with your Dropbox account.
- Go to mytoad.toadworld.com and sign in.
Once more, click Allow to let Toad for Oracle connect with your Dropbox account.
On the Remote Script Execution page:
Enter database information or select it from the grid (not shown).
Select an uploaded script or enter an ad hoc query on the Query tab, such as:
select * from all_users.- Click Execute.
Optionally, you can enter an email address or mobile phone number to be notified of results. - Click Results. (The number of scripts executed will display next to Results when complete.)
Your client Toad does not have to be running to execute scripts remotely, but MyToadMonitor.exe does.
MyToad for mobile-device users
You can execute scripts using your mobile device.
In Toad:
- Select Enable MyToad in Options Online as described above.
On your mobile device:
- Go to mytoad.toadworld.com.
- Sign in or register for Dropbox.
- Allow access to Toad for Oracle.
Users with an iOS device such as iPhone or iPad will be able to add MyToad to their Home screens via Safari.
Enable user files syncing
You can sync files with a Dropbox account.
Go to View Toad Options Online Enable user files syncing
Benefits:
- Each copy of Toad you have can be set up to use a single set of application data files.
- Backup - Dropbox provides a secure, online storage mechanism.
- Versioning - Dropbox automatically versions every file stored in it. You can roll back to an earlier version of a data file.
Toad World Repository
With Toad World Repository, you can share your scripts and see other Toad users' scripts.
By uploading scripts you think would be useful to the community of Toad Oracle professionals, you can be part of this worldwide script library.
You can also:
- Comment on scripts
- Rate them
- Bookmark your favorites
- Organize them into collections.
- Discover the popularity of scripts by seeing the number of downloads, and their number of Likes and Dislikes.
To access scripts in the Repository:
- On the Editor toolbar, click the new 'Open from Repository' or 'Save to Repository' buttons.
- Agree to the terms of use and then sign in or register in the Toad World Sign In dialog.
- Select a file to see related details and any Comments.
You can also log in by going to View Toad Options Online Toad World.
The Open window contains existing files.
- Right-click a file to Like, Dislike, Bookmark, or Mark it as inappropriate.
- Double-click an item or click Open to open the file in Toad's Editor.
To add your script to the Repository:
- Open a script in your Editor.
- Click 'Save to Repository' on the Editor toolbar
- In the Save As window:
- Type your file name and description.
- Choose the Type (Script, Document, or Other).
- Select a Collection to add it to (or create a new one); optional.
- Click the ellipsis button next to File Tags to select related tags and click OK.
- Enter a Description.
- Click Save to upload your file to the Repository.
You can manage your Toad World Repository login in Options (View Toad Options Online).
TNS Names
Toad now supports the IFILE directive within TNS Names files. The IFILE directive allows you to link to an external TNS Names file and dynamically include its contents along with the contents of your local TNS Names list. You can include TNS files up to three levels deep in order to organize and manage TNS entries within your company.
Editor
The new Compare to menu item lets you easily access this feature.
You can compare one tab to another tab, or one tab to a file on disk.
- Right click in the Editor
- Click Compare To
You can also use the Control-key/click/drag method from one tab onto another that has always been available.
You can now edit search-and-replace macros via the right-click menu in Editor. This advanced macro editor lets you reconfigure any macro, rename it, remove it, and create new macros. Copy/paste is supported. You can also copy/paste your macros and email them.
Schema Browser
- Table Filter has a new option to exclude Object tables. When selected, this could make the SB load noticeably faster for some users.
- The RHS Data tab is now read only if you don't have UPDATE privilege on the table, view or MView.
Script Generation
You can now specify version of the target database, so scripts generated from a higher DB version can run in a lower DB version.
You have this option in:
- Export DDL
- Generate Schema Script (This feature is only available with the DB Admin Module.)
- Generate Database Script. (This feature is only available with the DB Admin Module.)
Optimize SQL Statements
The new database type option lets you optimize SQL without using hints
Right-click a SQL statement in the Editor and select Optimize Auto Optimize SQL
Amazon RDS Support
The following features now support Oracle databases running on Amazon RDS:
- Loading of Trace files into Trace File Browser
- Kill of Sessions from Session Browser
- Flush Shared Pool from DB Probe
- Create/Alter tablespace
- Redo Log Manager
- Alert Log Viewer
- SB-Tablespace - set default temporary or permanent tablespace
Note: Some of the features listed are only available with the DB Admin Module.
Version Control
ClearCase
Toad now supports IBM Rational ClearCase for version control.
Note: Toad has been tested with ClearCase Version 7.1 for Windows. ClearTool command line is required. A working client view, mapped to the project VOB, must be set up the client computer before using in Toad.
Team Foundation Server
Toad now supports mapping to multiple Work Directories (as available with Team Foundation Server) on the new Workspace tab of the Team Foundation Server Login Dialog. Versions of Toad prior to 11.6 only permitted a single Work Directory (client folder mapping) for a Workspace.

64 Bit
Toad for Oracle's 64-bit version now lets you connect using 64-bit Oracle clients.
Internet-free Toad Installation
Toad 11.6 introduces a secure, Internet-free Toad installation with a restrictive parameter used when installing Toad silently. The 'i' parameter of the RESTRICTIONS option ensures Toad does not access the Internet. This prevents the use of all functionality which could do so, such as the FTP window and opening Browser windows through Toad.

Code Analysis
Code Analysis (formerly CodeXpert) is Toad's powerful code review and analysis tool. It helps you ensure that the performance, maintainability, and reliability of code meets and exceeds your company’s best practice standards.
Code Analysis has the following new features:
Ignore Rules
You can now choose to ignore specific Code Analysis Rules.
- First, to be sure you see rule violations in the Editor, click Check rules as you type in Toad Options Code Analysis General.
- In the Editor, right-click on a rule violation.
- Point to Code Analysis Violations and then point to the rule description.
- Select the instances in which you want to ignore the rule.
You can also access the 'Ignore Rules' option by right-clicking on rule violations in the Messages tab at the bottom of the Editor window.
You can choose to:
- Ignore this instance
- Ignore all instances in this window
- Ignore all instances.
To restore a rule to full service:
- Go to View Toad Options Code Analysis General
- In the Rules section, click the new Ignored Rules button.
In the Code Analysis Ignored Rules window: Click a row to select it.
- Click X on the toolbar or press DELETE on your keyboard.
Legend (checkboxes are read-only indicators):
- For 'Ignore this instance' ,the Line and Column are populated.
- ' Ignore All' is unchecked.
- 'Ignore In Object' is unchecked.
- For 'Ignore all instances in this window' (Ignore In Object),the Line and Column are N/A.
- 'Ignore All' is unchecked.
- 'Ignore in Object' is checked.
- For 'Ignore All Instances' (Ignore All), the Line and Column, are N/A.

Updated UI
Code Analysis options, toolbars, and windows have been updated to improve usability.
On the Code Analysis toolbar, the 'Analyze Code' and 'Scan SQL statements..' buttons have been replaced by a drop-down list to apply to selected items:
- Run Review
- Run SQL Scan
- Run Review and SQL Scan.
Make your selection and press F9, or click 'Analyze Code for all selected items' on the toolbar .
Or to apply your selection to all items, press F5.
Run (F9), Run all (F5), and Cancel have been updated.
The Code Analysis Rules window has been updated.
- Go to View Toad Options Code Analysis General.
- Click Edit Rules to see the updates.
The new graphic icon legend makes it easier to see rule types/objectives at a glance.
Updates to edited rules display
Edited rules are now indicated by a checked box in the User Defined column.
Modified rules are now indicated by a checked box in the Modified column.
To reset user-defined or edited rules to their original values, select the rule and click the 'Restore Original Rule Value' button, or click the double-arrow 'Restore All Original Rule Values' button. These buttons replace the right-click functionality for restoring rules.
When editing Rule Sets, it is easier to identify read-only rules sets.
- Go to View Toad Options Code Analysis General
- Click Edit Rule Sets.
Toad's standard rule sets cannot be edited.
- Click 'Create New Rule Set .
- Enter a Title and optional Comments and select the rules to include.
- Click OK.
Your new rule set will appear with the Read Only checkbox unselected.
The 'Export Rule Set' and the 'Edit Rule Set' buttons become available when you select your new rule set.
Importing and Exporting Rules and Rule Sets
- The Edit Code Analysis Rules toolbar now includes import and export buttons to import existing or export user-defined rules.
- See 'Create, Clone, or Edit Code Analysis Rules' in the online help for more information.
- The import and export of rule sets has been updated.
- See 'Create or Edit Rule Sets' in the online help for more information.
Streamlined Code Analysis Action
- Go to Utilities Automation Designer DB Misc and click 'Code Analysis' on the DB Misc tab
- Double-click the new action to see the streamlined Code Analysis Properties window.
Analyze Code from the Project Manager
You can now perform a full Code Analysis directly from the Project Manager, using your default rule set, via the right-click menu.

Upgrades for Toad install side-by-side with any previous versions you have installed. You can run the new and previous versions concurrently. The first time you run the new version of Toad you are asked tomigrate previous settings files.
Note:Toad supports importing settings only if the new version is within two releases of the previous version. If your versions are more than two releases apart, you need to install an intermediate version to successfully import the files.

This release is Unicode-enabled and supports any character set. In this release, all product components should be configured to use the same or compatible character encodings and should be installed to use the same local and regional options. This release is targeted to support operations in the following regions: North America, Western Europe and Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, Far-East Asia, Japan.
This release has the following known capabilities or limitations: Toad is a Unicode application. As such, it has native support for any Oracle Unicode character set, such as UTF8 or AL32UTF8. There are some features in Toad which use or invoke Oracle Utilities or applications which are not themselves Unicode applications. Their functionality is therefore limited to the character set of the client on which Toad is running, and NLS_LANG must be carefully set to match the Windows character set.
We have also observed issues with US7ASCII when used with non-Latin characters.
